The Sad Story Of The VCR

These handy items are the focus of the living room, not long ago. They make life more convenient and fun. You do not have to miss your favorite television shows. Record them and watch them anytime. Video rental stores pop up on the landscape, almost overnight. All types of funny moments and criminal activity is now caught forever on tape. Yet, this amazing invention is fading into the sunset. It is becoming extinct.

Many items are traveling the same path. Yet, some of them appear to be immune to the process. The electric hand mixer is a good example. They are seen in most kitchens of today. Somehow, they manage to withstand the test of time. The VCR is not faring as well.

In most cases, it is due to being replaced. Something bigger, faster, or more efficient takes over. The DVD has slowly taken the place of the VCR. DVD movies do not have to be rewound. You can easily mail them across the world.

A few appliances seem to defy the law of evolution. The hand blender fit into this category. It starts out as very popular. It disappears, and then resurfaces. It becomes popular again.

Some handy kitchen items are replaced by mechanized ones. However, some manage to survive. Manual can openers are perfect examples. These simple yet effective tools are still in millions of kitchens. This is true in spite of all the electric can openers. Is it their durability and reliability that keeps them in demand?

Some modern appliances seem to do very well as time passes. An example is the countertop microwave. There have been a few changes made. Some of them fit over your stove. Some have a convection option built in. These ovens are as popular today as in the past. They are also much more affordable now.

The VCR does have its pitfalls. This may be the reason for its demise. These items can be difficult, at times. You must be careful or you may get a tape stuck in the unit. Sometimes they can be hard to hook up to your TV. They can be difficult to program, also.

The VCR is handy invention that may have seen its better day. Modern technology is bringing about its extinction. Fortunately there are still some items that seem immune to this type of fate. Enjoy them while you can.
